Our Maisel & Friends brewery site in Bayreuth proves that breathtaking street art is not only at home in big cities. At various locations in and around our original building, you can marvel at works of art by over 80 artists from 30 countries - a permanent work of art.
Our beers are also the result of passionate brewing art. Beer brewing and street art combine the creative ability to create something special from just four ingredients. For the brewer it is hops, malt, yeast and water, for the artist it is the four CMYK basic colors.
There have always been artists at the Maisel family brewery - until now, they could only be found at the brewing kettle, creating their very own (brewing) work of art. This changed with the opening of the Liebesbier Restaurant & Bar.
The beginning of street art on the brewery site can be traced back to Oscar Maisel (3rd generation). In the 1980s, he gave graffiti artists permission to spray legally on the outside wall of the brewery, creating one of the first public street art spaces in Bayreuth.
The art moved into the original building of our family brewery in 2016 with the opening of the Liebesbier restaurant, where it has adorned the walls ever since. Since 2022, visitors have been able to enjoy another street art highlight: the Liebesbier Urban Art Hotel. But that's not all: the variety of murals, sculptures and works of art around the brewery has been growing ever since. As part of the first Urban Art Days in September 2024, a video was created that shows how well street art and brewing art harmonize with each other.
Globally unique art project: Liebesbier Urban Art Hotel
70 artists from over 30 countries were involved in the realization of the Liebesbier Urban Art Hotel, whose curator is urban artist Hera (real name Jasmin Siddiqui). Spectacular murals and impressive wall paintings can be seen on the exterior walls of the building, making the lobby, rooms and corridors something very special. In their own style and without any specifications, the artists used the walls as a canvas and immortalized themselves in the modern Smart Hotel. Detailed information can be found on our Liebesbier website.

There is breathtaking street art to discover not only in our Liebesbier Urban Art Hotel, but now throughout the entire brewery site. We want to make art in public spaces accessible to all visitors. With “Mother Earth” by David Mesguich, there has also been a beautiful sculpture and true homage to the art of brewing to marvel at since April 2024. In September 2024, we hosted the Urban Art Days for the first time. In the course of this, new life was breathed into the 38-meter-high chimney and the façade of the old malt house. Hera, Simon ATE Crew, Emesa Amze, Mina Mania, KMG and Kashink, among others, immortalized themselves there. You can find an overview of all the works of art in the hotel and on the grounds on the Liebesbier website.
In 2018, the idea was born to not only give art space in the bottle, but also to create something extraordinary on the label. Since then, the Artbeer series has been producing limited edition beer specialties in collaboration with artists from all over the world, where the label becomes a canvas.
We have also adopted this unique concept for our Signature range. Since then, breathtaking works of art have adorned the labels of our Signature beers, with which the Maisel & Friends journey began in 2012. An incredible symbiosis of street art and the art of brewing that fits perfectly into the Maisel & Friends philosophy - into a world of values that sees particular added value in cooperation and collaboration, as they multiply fun and creativity.
Thanks to Jasmin's loving curation and her international art contacts, the Liebesbier Urban Art Hotel and the Maisel & Friends brewery site have been transformed into a globally unique work of art. And we are far from finished!
Jasmin Siddiqui, born in Frankfurt in 1981, has been active in the graffiti scene since 2001. Her work is based on the balance of opposites. Her artist name Hera - after the Olympic goddess known for her destructive rage - contrasts with her real name Jasmin - a lovely flower. Her countless works of art over the last 20 years show that something supposedly small and weak can possess immense strength. Among the largest formats that carry her message are facades in Sao Paolo, Moscow, Melbourne and Miami.
